RATTLESNAKE MTN - CATFISH FIRE TOWER

It rained heavily last night but is clear this morning. There were no bears to photograph - that we knew of. The dozens of small welts that I feared may have been poison ivy from this infested area are gone. Evidently a spider got into my shirt and tried to chew his way out through my flesh.

Following the series of photos from yesterday - Across Culvers gap, then onto Rattlesnake Mtn (2nd pix this series) looking south (ahead, then from summit of Rattlesnake Mtn looking back (north) with views interspersed gives you a good idea of the topography and rugged beauty of the trail in this area. Yes, this IS New Jersey, northeastern NJ along its PA border. A beautiful area.

Continue the Kittatinny range ridge along an aborted housing development roadway, (Tock Island Dam project stopped after protest) past the Catfish fire tower site, and down into Camp Mohican, an Appalachian Mountain Club operated camp with cabins and tentsites. I get a shower and a tentsite. A noisy screech owl disturbs my night's sleep with his incessant phew phew phew almost sounding like a baby crying. The camp is real nice. I call home from the pay phone - I am anxious to get home.
